We’ll be Sailing Miles throughout the 2015 season taking it easy as we cruise to interesting ports close to our base on the East Coast, across the channel to France, Belgium and Holland and along the South Coast of England.
On our cruises the pace is determined by the mix of crew onboard. Sometimes we’ll be making short hops giving us ample time to explore ashore whilst other crews might prefer to do long passages to arrive in a new port every evening for dinner.
At the very start of your cruise, your skipper will discussing with you and the rest of your crew, your objectives for the cruise, the possible cruising grounds and ports of interest and together you’ll agree a schedule for your cruise.
The total miles you’ll sail will depend upon your schedule and the weather, but we’d expect you to be able to add quite a few miles to your logbook.
Whilst cruising, your skipper will encourage you to participate fully in sailing the boat and will help you to practice your skills of sail trimming, helming, passage planning, navigating, picking up moorings and coming alongside when entering berths. If you want a few sailing lessons along the way your skipper will oblige and on some of the cruises you might also be able to complete a full RYA Practical course, but check with us first as not all cruises are suitable for this. If however you’d prefer a less active cruise, then just sit back and let the sights of the Essex coast drift by. This is Essex sailing.
